This is a blog for the production of a personal comic book featuring my characters from past projects, Bravestar, Rob from "The Divided" and characters from "The Book of Nemus". I will post here artwork and videos about the creation of the book. It's my goal to piece together an enjoyable and meaningful story from several of my story ideas and characters. I want it to be exciting and entertaining with the ultimate goal of crowd funding the book and self publishing it.
In the past I have been excited about some of my own stories, but lacked the will, expertise or spark to pull them together. They always started out small and became long and sprawling stories with sub plots and side stories branching off them resulting in there never being a way to make them feasibly. To add to that I also knew I wanted a certain quality to them and held myself back with a lack of belief in my abilities. While now I still have reservations about my abilities, I feel I know enough to do a serviceable job and don't want to waste any more time. I want it out there.
The Chronicles of Bravestar will be different from these previous projects because while I have a general idea of how I am going to tie everything together, I am creating the book a page at a time. There are no 100+ page scripts that seem like an insurmountable amount of work. There are no detailed sub plots and side plots. All there is is the idea, the character and a sticky situation he will be dropped into. I know a few elements that are in place he will encounter but as to what will happen when he does, most of that is up in the air. I want the story to go wherever it will.
In producing the pages, I write it at the same time as I do the layouts, then scan it and do cleaner pencils and add letters. It will need to be inked at a later time however using this method I can edit and refine the story whenever I need to and immediately see the result. I can also keep the project moving forward whenever inspiration takes me as it takes very little time to create the layouts. I want to continue experimenting with my process to the point that the writing and drawing of the story are the same thing.
This method of creating the book lets me freely explore whatever I want. I can take as a many pages as I want for a scene and edit it down later if need be or I can knock out several ideas very quickly. As I am tackling each idea in a page mostly, it makes rearranging the story very simple.
So far I have about 20 pages in a readable state. I have been editing them and updating them as I have been producing new pages.
I am doing this for me. I have had these stories and ideas in me for years and never really taken the steps to put them out there that I should have. I really hope that I can produce something that others will also enjoy.
